UWM Commits $10 Million to develop a youth community center at UWM Sports Complex
No-cost access for community and Pontiac youth
Pontiac, MI, May 13, 2021 – United Wholesale Mortgage, LLC (UWM), the #1 wholesale and purchase lender in America, and certified best place to work in Michigan, today announced a huge investment to enhance the UWM Sports Complex to provide a state-of-the-art community center for Pontiac youth.
UWM has committed $10 million to renovate multiple fields at the UWM Sports Complex. The space will be open to the community and Pontiac residents for sports such as basketball and volleyball, at no cost. In addition, league play for soccer athletes and clubs will continue to be an available on multiple fields, both indoor and outdoor.
“Kids and youth sports are two things that are very important to me,” said Mat Ishbia, president and CEO at UWM. “Our main goal is to provide access to kids within the community, specifically Pontiac youth, who haven’t had the chance to get involved in sports leagues, and this will ensure our local youth have the opportunity to come together and stay active at a state-of-the-art sports facility.”
With construction beginning immediately, Field 3 will be converted into a community sports center, with renovations expected to be complete by the end of September. The field will be configured to hold 8 basketball courts and/or 16 volleyball courts, and will be used for a mix of sports and other team building activities.
Mat Ishbia and the UWM leadership team will work closely with ReImagine Recreation and surrounding community groups to ensure full access is granted to kids throughout the city of Pontiac for sporting and recreational needs. Quality, community-based after-school programming, camps, leagues and a multitude of other activities in a variety of youth sports will be offered. This project will help attract children and families who have historically had reduced access, giving them the physical activity infrastructure that provides a foundation for lifelong health and success.
Purchased by UWM in November 2020, the 15.8-acre, 378,400 square-foot facility now houses a newly renovated, state-of-the-art training facility for UWM team members and two indoor soccer fields. Field 4 will remain a soccer field and is currently being used as a mass COVID-19 vaccination site.
